NFL Hall of Famer Derrick Brooks has never let his connection to Pensacola fade behind the spotlight he catapulted himself into while starring at Florida State and eventually with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he won a Super Bowl.
That connection is now a little stronger after it was announced last Wednesday night in a ceremony at Pensacola Blue Wahoos Stadium that Brooks, one of the greatest athletes Northwest Florida has ever produced, is joining the ownership group of the Cincinnati Reds Double-A affiliate.
“Staying connected to my hometown has never been an issue,” Brooks said. “I’ve been here quietly more than people realize, doing work behind the scenes, and now with this announcement, I have to come out from behind the veil.”
