Bella’s bracelets save sea turtles

When it comes to protecting and advocating for what someone is passionate about, age is often just a number.

That’s especially true of 8-year-old Bella Lucier, whose love of marine life has raised hundreds of dollars for the Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center.

Bella met resident green sea turtle Sweet Pea during a family outing to the center. Sweet Pea was seriously injured by humans, causing the loss of one of her flippers.

“I love Sweet Pea,” she said. “Sea turtles are cute, and I had never seen one before. I was excited that when I went to the center, I saw a turtle.”

Enamored with the juvenile reptile and all things animals, Bella set about helping protect the four endangered sea turtle species that call northwest Florida beaches home. She started a fundraiser using handmade bracelets to support the center’s work educating the public and rescuing turtles along the beach.
