Citizen accuses Zoning Board member of bias after argument over bridge naming

Santa Rosa County Zoning Board member Sam Mullins was asked to disqualify himself from voting on a particular agenda item by an audience member at a meeting May 13. Tony Hughes, the audience member who requested Mullins’ disqualification, says this is the result of an incident that occurred at a February Board of County Commissioners meeting.

Zoning Board denies dock extension request for Soundside Hollow

Members of the Santa Rosa County Zoning Board recommended to deny a variance request to increase the length of a Navarre dock from 300 feet to 406.5 feet at a meeting April 29. The board voted against the proposal in a 6-2 vote. The location of the proposed dock is 9679 Navarre Pkwy.

The dock is for Soundside Hollow, where a code violation has already been issued after a red clay mixture ran off the property and into the Santa Rosa Sound during heavy rains.

The Santa Rosa County Zoning Board recommended to approve two variance requests to reduce the front setback along an arterial road and reduce the side setback to accommodate an existing structure at a meeting on April 29. Solar facility

New solar power facility in works near Milton

Representatives from Gulf Power spoke at the Board of County Commissioners Land Development Code Update Workshop meeting April 20 about updating code language for solar considerations in Santa Rosa County. Gulf Power also spoke about the new Blackwater River Solar Energy Center’s proposed layout and benefits it could bring to the community.
