Miss Santa Rosa County crowned at ‘World Class’ pageant

The crowning of Miss Santa Rosa County, Miss Escambia County, Miss Pensacola, Miss Pensacola Beach, Miss Milton, Miss Pace, Miss Navarre, Miss Navarre Beach and Miss Gulf Breeze was held Sunday, Aug. 27, at Gulf Breeze Middle School. 28 young women were crowned in total.

Holley Navarre Fire District approves rate increase

The Fire Commission for Holley Navarre Fire District voted to approve a rate increase for residents’ fire assessments Monday, Aug. 28, during their monthly meeting. The now approved rate structure for the upcoming fiscal year (FY 2023-24) is expected to bring in $3 million, a comparable number to last year’s actual assessment revenue ($3,092,209). FY 2023-24 runs from Oct. 1, 2023, to Sept. 30, 2024.

Dry weather leads to brush fires

So far in the month of August, Navarre has only received 1.47 inches of rain according to the data. In July, we received 3.71 inches of rain. Those two months do not even equal the total amount of rain in June of 8.88 inches. The dry conditions coupled with wind has allowed brush fires to spark more easily. Monday, Aug. 21, left Holley Navarre Fire District and their partners battling three brush fires scattered across Navarre, all taking place after noon.

2023 marks 20th anniversary of Beaches to Woodlands tour

The Beaches to Woodlands tour is back for its 20th year. The annual tourism initiative, which runs from September through November, features various activities across Santa Rosa County including concerts, outdoor markets, beer and wine festivals, pumpkin patches, the Navarre fishing rodeo and the Juana Good Time Regatta, just to name a few. This year, the tour kicks off with Bands on the Blackwater Sept. 1 in Milton.

Navarre Walmart Supercenter getting a new look

The Walmart Supercenter in Navarre is getting a makeover. In July, Walmart started remodeling sections of the store. The project is expected to be complete by October.

City of Gulf Breeze files suit against Skanska barge blunder effects

In September 2020, Hurricane Sally landed near Gulf Shores, Alabama, and Northwest Florida suffered millions of dollars in damage. Along with structural damage in the Pensacola, Gulf Breeze and Navarre areas, the newly built Pensacola Bay Bridge, also known as the Three-mile Bridge, was partially destroyed by loose barges leading to financial damages to businesses.
