Athletes draw “easy” workout at CrossFit Open

Athletes drew an “easy” card in week two of the CrossFit Open – just 20 minutes of full-body challenge not uncommon from a regular daily workout.

The real challenge wasn’t so physical, but mental. To complete the workout, an athlete knocked out 20 rounds of four dumbbell thrusters, six toes-to-bar crunches, and 24 repetitions with a jump rope.

The CrossFit Open is a five-week challenge designed to physically push participants. It serves as a qualifier for the elite athletes to qualify for the international 2020 CrossFit Games.

Cameron Kessinger completed 25 rounds, albeit with the “scaled” – or easier modification workout – single-unders in jumping rope and a hanging knee raises.

“It’s not complex,” said Kessinger, who has only been doing CrossFit for three months. “A plain smoker. Nothing to it.”

That seems a bit contemptuous considering Kessinger’s performance of 825 repetitions within the short time limit.
