Cameron Cox has been to the top in the Gulf South Conference. He was part of a University of West Florida men’s basketball team that won the GSC tournament championship in 2018.
The junior point guard also knows what it’s like to be near the bottom of the conference. The Argonauts, plagued by injuries, finished on the lower end of the standings last year.
“It’s extremely humbling,” Cox said. “It really makes you want to work harder. We worked hard over the summer and we’re ready to get to the top again.”
It’s not a goal that’s out of reach, even for a team that has just three players returning with experience. The Argos added eight newcomers in the offseason and two others are coming off redshirt years.
Head coach Jeff Burkhamer likes what he’s seen from the team so far in practice and is thankful the Argos are starting off the year healthy.
“I’m excited about having a full team to start practice with,” Burkhamer said.
