Ronald Kirkland was 15 years old when he was first sent to prison. He’d broken the law and eventually ended up in Santa Rosa Correctional Institution to serve his time. Kirkland would miss high school graduation and become an adult behind bars. Now a father, Kirkland, 27, is approaching his release date.
According to Florida Department of Corrections Secretary Mark Inch, men like Kirkland have an unemployment rate five times the national average upon reentering society.
