FLORIDA OFFICIALS SAY BOY KILLED HIMSELF

Police spokesman Rob Shaw said Thursday afternoon that Ian Sevostjanov’s mother sent him to his room Thursday morning. According to a news release, the boy was sent to a room in his family’s apartment, where he obtained the gun. Ian, who was in fifth grade, died from a single gunshot. Officials say they are investigating how the firearm was stored.

MIAMI AIRPORT EX-OFFICIAL GETS 7 YEARS’ PRISON IN FRAUD

Court documents show 46-year-old Ivan Valdes also was ordered by a judge Thursday to pay $5.4 million in restitution and to surrender at a prison in March. Valdes was maintenance division director for the Miami-Dade County Aviation Department. The total fraud was estimated at more than $5 million. State bribery, bid tampering and other charges are pending.

FLORIDA JUDGE SENDS FORMER ‘PILL MILL’ DOCTOR TO PRISON

U.S. District Judge Brian Davis issued the sentence for Russell Sachs on Wednesday in Clay County. Sachs had 10 patients die of drug overdoses. In making his ruling, Davis said the deaths and the fact that Sachs had sexual relations with eight of his female patients justified a longer sentence. Davis said Sachs was running a “pill mill.”

MEDICAL EXAMINER RULES BOY’S CHRISTMAS EVE DEATH A HOMICIDE

An incident report released Wednesday by the Department of Children and Families says no one has been charged in the Christmas Eve death of Kalobe Williams. An autopsy revealed a cracked skull and a lump on his forehead. His 26-year-old mother Latonya Edwards told investigators she left him with his aunt and uncle on Dec. 23.

3 INJURED IN SOUTH FLORIDA POLICE CHASE

Hollywood police spokeswoman Miranda Grossman tells news outlets the incident began around 2 p.m. Wednesday when detectives conducting an undercover drug investigation tried to stop a vehicle. She says the car went onto Interstate 95 for a brief time, before exiting the highway and driving through a stop sign. It crashed into three vehicles.
