Raider weightlifters dominate invite at Fort Walton

Navarre’s girls weightlifting team dominated the Fort Walton Beach Invitational on Dec. 1 at Choctaw. The Raider weightlifters won a first place finish in each of the 10 weight divisions. The Raiders also finished second in seven weight divisions. The final score was Navarre 75, Fort Walton Beach 23 and Choctaw 15.

Current state champion in the 101-pound division, Payton Watson, won the division with a bench press of 140 pounds and a clean-and-jerk of 125, for a combined lift of 265 pounds. Amiyah Carnell placed third with a total lift of 230 pounds.

Rabiya Emruli won the 110-pound division with a 130-pound bench press and 145-pound clean-and-jerk giving her a 275-pound total. Kati Wells placed second with 250-pound combined lift.

Current state champion in the 119-pound division, Savannah Diel had a 170-pound bench press and a clean-and-jerk of 180 pounds for a 350-pound total. Her clean-and-jerk was 10 pounds more than the state record she set last year.  Kiki Carillo placed second with combined lift of 275 pounds.

Mikayla Mayfield won the 129-pound division with a 140-pound bench press and a clean-and-jerk of 145, giving her a 285-pound total. Kayla Harris placed second with a 280-pound combined lift.

Macey Kornely won the 139-pound division with a 155-pound bench press and a 160-pound clean-and-jerk for a 315-pound combined lift. Melanie Johnson placed second, with a 300-pound total.

In the 154-pound division, Kailey Haldeman won with a bench press of 165 pounds and a clean-and-jerk of 155, for a combined lift of 320 pounds. Jennifer Chavez finished second with a total lift of 280 pounds.
