Students gain real-world, know-how in bot building competition

First time competitors Gulf Breeze High School took third place with their hand built robot Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Emerald Coast BEST Robotics Competition at the University of West Florida, beating out 20 of the 23 other schools from five counties in northwest Florida.

Two of the other top placers hailed from Santa Rosa County, first place Woodlawn Beach Middle School and fourth place Pace High School.

The BEST competition tasks teams of middle and high schoolers to conceptualize, build, test and market a robot to participate in a series of timed tasks.
