Glen Berry wasn’t thrilled last month when he received a citation from a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officer for his bird feeder because it is a bear attractant.
The bear that roamed into the yard of his Navarre home, however, wasn’t initially hungry for bird seed.
“I wasn’t given the citation for my pear tree, which is the main reason the bear came into the yard, because the tree is a naturally occurring thing,” Berry said. “I was given one because of the birdfeeder. They told me I need to bring it in at night, but it was only 5 p.m. at the time. It wasn’t even dark yet.”
Berry was issued a notification of non-compliance from the FWC, but if the FWC were to return down the road for the same issue, he would be fined.
