Ann Constance walks out of the Lowe’s store in Gulf Breeze carrying a brand-new air conditioner, which isn’t an uncommon sight during a Florida summer when the outdoor temperature makes it feel as if you are inside a sauna.
The difference in this situation on a steamy Friday afternoon in July is the AC unit isn’t for Constance. It’s a donation for the Council on Aging of West Florida’s Senior Chill Out event.
“I heard about it on the news and my husband and I wanted to help out,” Constance said.
The Council on Aging set up collection sites at three Lowe’s locations Friday, one in Gulf Breeze and the other two in Pensacola, and accepted donations of new air conditioners or fans from people in the community. Monetary donations were also accepted.
