FLORIDA DEMOCRATS HAVE BACKING FOR VOTE ON SPECIAL SESSION
Senator Darren Soto said Tuesday that he’s submitted 46 letters from representatives in both chambers. The Democrats are pushing to toughen gun laws to prevent known terrorists and those on the no-fly and FBI watch lists from legally obtaining a gun license. The proposed legislation would also require a thorough investigation of anyone removed from those lists who wants to obtain a gun.
MAN ACCUSED OF KILLING PREGNANT FLORIDA TEEN 4 YEARS LATER
On Monday, Chief Tony Holloway told reporters that 28-year-old Jacobee Flowers faces a first-degree murder charge in the slaying of Morgan Martin on July 25, 2012. The arrest was made after a 13-month cold case investigation. The teen’s mother says she left home that night, wearing pajamas and fuzzy slippers. Leah Martin says her daughter planned to share news of her pregnancy with Flowers, who she says was the baby’s father.
ORLANDO DEMOCRAT: FDA SHOULD END BAN ON GAY MEN GIVING BLOOD
In a conference call led Tuesday by gay rights advocates, Rep. Alan Grayson said he planned legislation aimed at updating the country’s system for screening blood donations. Grayson said no one should be turned away from giving blood after a tragedy like the June 12 massacre at a gay club that killed 49 and injured dozens.
TEEN PLEADS GUILTY TO MURDERING HOMELESS MAN
The now-14-year-old boy entered his plea Tuesday. He was charged as an adult for the 2014 killing of 54-year-old Thomas Trent. Prosecutors waived the 25-year minimum mandatory sentence, so the boy now faces 10 to 40 years in prison. Investigators say surveillance video showed two young men running behind the strip mall where Trent’s body was found with something pulled over their heads.
WOMAN GETS 30 YEARS FOR KILLING TODDLER DAUGHTER
Rachael Fryer was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty to second-degree murder. She had been scheduled to go on trial for first-degree murder next month. Investigators say that Tariji Gordon’s body was found in 2014 behind a vacant Crescent City home.
