The Florida Chamber of Commerce met with the Workers’ Comp Task Force via webinar Friday, May 27, to discuss legislation to be proposed to the Florida Legislature to prevent a workers’ compensation rate increase.
The increase of 17.1 percent recommended by the National Council on Compensation (NCCI) would raise the amount across the state including rates for small businesses.
The NCCI recommendation is mostly because of a Florida Supreme Court ruling regarding attorney’s fees.
The Florida Supreme Court ruled the current fee system unconstitutional in April in the case of Marvin Castellanos v. Next Door Co. and Amerisure.
Vice President of Public Affairs for the Florida Chamber of Commerce Edie Ousley said in an email to Navarre Press the Chamber was not surprised by the ruling.
