Home on Calle de Castelar burns
A residence in the 2200 block of Calle de Castelar in Navarre was destroyed by fire at around 11:30 p.m. on June 2. Chief Ron Norton of the Holley-Navarre Fire District said in a release that the 911 call reported fire in the garage of the house.
When Norton arrived he confirmed there was a working fire in the garage with heavy fire showing and extending into the attic. Crews entered the home to attack the blaze, however the roof began to collapse so they were withdrawn from the inside. Instead, an exterior attack had to be directed.
The 2,900 square foot home is a total loss with major fire damage on the second floor, and two vehicles in the garage were also destroyed.
The Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office was called to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire. Preliminary indications are the fire started from a failed electrical cord in the garage.
In all, 22 firefighters from five departments battled the blaze. The departments included Holley-Navarre, Navarre Beach, Midway, Florosa and Hurlburt Field. East Milton, Avalon and Escambia County provided coverage for the area during the fire.
