Navarre’s track teams competed at the District 2-7A meet April 13 at Emerald Coast Middle School in Santa Rosa Beach and several Raiders are moving on to regional competition.
The top four in each event advance to the regional, which is set for April 28 in Tallahassee.
Khorri Newton was a district champion for the girls in the high jump with a leap of 5-feet while teammate Amber Leggett qualified in the high jump as well with a jump of 4-10.
Leggett also earned a regional berth in the triple jump (32-7) and long jump (16-0).
Khiara Newton, who is only a freshman, placed second in the pole vault, reaching a height of 9-6, while Veronica Matechik took third in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking in with a time of 17.66.
Matechik also teamed up with Mikayla Mayfield, Zandra Nicely and Khorri Newton to earn a third-place finish in the 400 relay. The team recorded a regional-qualifying time of 53.11.
On the boys side, Austin Epstein was district champion in the 1600 as he finished the race in 4:41.61. Epstein earned a regional berth in the 3200 as well, placing third in a time of 10:26.35.
Charles Orth, Sam Bashaam and John McGowan all won district championships as well.
