Something extraordinarily special happens when you bring children into an assisted living community to socialize with the residents. It is difficult to tell who benefits the most, the children or the seniors.
The experience was even more special when West Navarre Intermediate Pre-K CBSA classes visited The Beacon Assisted Living Community in Gulf Breeze. The CBSA class is comprised of 3-5 year old children with communication, behavior, social or academic challenges. It is specifically designed for Autistic and Down Syndrome children. A total of 50 children participated but the group was divided into two one hour trips.
Alisha Justice, West Navarre Intermediate teacher and organizer for the field trip, said the idea of taking the children to The Beacon came to her when she was thinking about and missing her grandfather, who passed away a few years ago.
