NEW INFO: Suspect in custody after gunfire exchange with OCSO

An Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Deputy was shot this morning outside an attorney’s office on Plew Avenue in Shalimar. He was taken to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.
A call of shots fired came into the OCSO Communications Center around 8:20 a.m. this morning.
Authorities shut down Plew Avenue in Shalimar and a portion of John Sims Parkway as part of their investigation.

It was later reported the suspect had barricaded himself inside a room at the Comfort Inn and Suites at 148 John Sims Parkway in Niceville.  The suspect was later taken into custody after gunfire exchange with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Department.

At last word, the deputy shot was in critical condition.

Sheriff Larry Ashley will be holding anews conference for working media today at 3 p.m. at the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office headquarters at 50 Second Street in Shalimar.
