A new youth initiative titled Every Kid in a Park is aimed at getting fourth-graders and their families to visit public lands and waters throughout the 2015-16 school year.
The White House and Federal Land Management agencies launched the initiative Sept. 1. It will provide fourth-graders with a pass that gives them access to national parks, national forests and national wildlife refuges and more. The pass is valid until Aug. 31, 2016.
The National Park Foundation, the official charity of American’s national parks, is also raising funds to help connect fourth-graders to public lands and waters through transportation grants. Its main focus is on urban communities, and it will help provide comprehensive access to all federal sites.
