It isn’t often high school teammates play together in college, but former Navarre soccer standouts Shelby Clark and Hayley Naker are on the same side at Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Ala.
What makes the story even more interesting is that both are impact players for the Hawks.
Clark is a sophomore forward and the team’s leading scorer from last season. Naker is a junior and one of the Hawks’ most valuable defenders.
“It’s nice to have a familiar face on the team,” Naker said. “I actually had no idea she was going to come here, too, but it is great having someone that knows you and that you can talk to.”
Clark shared similar thoughts on the situation.
“It’s definitely nice to have Hayley as a teammate,” Clark said. “It really helped me out last year when I came in. I was able to settle in easier and had fun playing.”
Clark started 17 games last year, punching in six goals to go along with one assist. She credits her teammates for her success.
“I had great teammates around me,” Clark said. “They pushed me to play my best and I think that allowed me to play as well as I did.”
