Growing up on Cape Cod, it was no surprise that Shanna Litterst loved the ocean – as well as its inhabitants.
In 2007, the 21-year-old biology major was interning at a fish hatchery on the Cape – her ultimate goal was to become a marine biologist.
But six weeks before she graduated college, Shanna was killed in a car accident.
The Littersts contacted the Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center and during a meeting with director Cathy Holmes in November, they made a $50,000 donation toward the center.
Holmes told the Littersts that the organization wanted to name the interpretive center after their daughter.
