Despite a surprise move June 11 by District 4 Commissioner Rob Williamson, suspending county funds toward the Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center, the organization this morning announced construction will move forward.
“We were surprised by Commissioner Rob Williamson’s sudden decision to suspend funding. Additionally, we’re taken aback by statements that claim we have been uncooperative as we have routinely met and been in communication with Commissioner Rob Williamson and his office, and supplied all information that is relevant to the TDC and District 4 funding,” the organization stated in a release.
The board said the financial records Williamson seeks are “all generated by the county and reside within the SRC Office of Management and Budget.”
The center said the current construction is privately funded and Williamson’s action “has no bearing our being able to complete the project.”
The group reports it has been “overwhelmed” by supportive emails, phone calls and text messages in the wake of Williamson’s action.
