Morrigan Webb didn’t expect to compete in weightlifting once she started college.
Never mind that she had the ability to do it, helping Navarre win the state championship in 2013 and earn a runner-up finish in 2014. Webb took third at state as a senior in the 169-pound weight division.
“I thought I was done after high school until I got a letter (from Northern Michigan University),” Webb said. “It took me some time to make a decision but I didn’t want to pass up the opportunity.”
NMU is located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where winters are downright brutal, featuring an average annual snowfall of 178 inches.
Webb said it took time to adjust to the weather change, although she noted it wasn’t as bad as she expected, along with everything else that comes with being a freshman student-athlete.
