Good news, bad news for leaseholders

The good news is the Board of County Commissioners is expected to reduce some residential beach lease fees Thursday. The bad news is commissioners plan to discuss implementing another municipal services benefit unit tax on leaseholders to fund future beach renourishment projects.

Last year the Florida Supreme Court upheld the assessment of property taxes on Santa Rosa Island, and some beach leaseholders complained it was “unfair” for them to have to pay both ad valorem taxes and beach lease fees.
