Reading under the stars

Kim Bailey captured students’ attention with her animated reading of “The Happy Tree” around a make-believe campfire.

Students lined the halls in their pajamas as the sun set over Holley-Navarre Primary School Jan. 29. The evening, dubbed as a “literacy family night,” included three different stations focused on reading.

Principal Barbara Scott hosted the “Launch into Reading” station in which she read “Amelia Bedelia” to students while dressed in a flight suit. Another station had families cuddling up on blankets under twinkling lights in the library as a projector showed different astral images. A third station was as a campsite in which students gathered around for another story.

According to Scott, the evening was organized with parents in mind.
