A Santa Rosa County Tourist Development Council member is questioning what she calls premature use of a newly established fund designated for Navarre Beach renourishment projects.
Laurie Gallup voiced concern during the Nov. 19 meeting, stating revenues collected from an additional one-cent bed tax, which went into effect June 1, should not be utilized for a current beach restoration effort.
Santa Rosa County Commissioners plan to cover the cost of the current renourishment project using county reserves, which they will then replenish with revenue generated by the additional penny tax. That tax accumulated more than $200,000 during the last quarter of the 2013-14 fiscal year, which ended Sept. 30.
