Trustees for investors who own the privately funded Garcon Point Bridge are pushing for another toll hike. Florida House District 3 Rep. Doug Broxson said that’s a bad idea, but others hope such a move might spur a public push for a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) buyout.
“I think it will cause bad will in the community,” Broxson said.
He met with trustees two weeks ago and plans to meet with them again soon. Broxson said cash tolls may rise from $3.75 to $5. SunPass discounts, available for users who make at least 30 trips across the bridge per month, may also be decreased from 50 to 25 percent.
