Navarre residents are receiving calls claiming to be the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office (SRCSO) with a warrant for the party who answers the phone. From there the caller, who has been identifying themselves as Sgt. Norell and Sgt. Anderson, gives the victim a chance to use money to clear the warrant without arrest.
“The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office is not making these calls,” said Deputy Rich Aloy in a SRCSO statement. “We do not call citizens in relation to warrants or solicit funds over the telephone.”
One of the numbers the calls came from was 850-209-6386, though the statement notes other numbers may be in use as well and the source appears to orginate outside of the United States.
The matter is still under investigation. Citizens can contact the SRCSO directly for warrant inquires at 850-981-2200.
“If you receive a call from someone representing themselves as a member of this Agency in relation to a warrant, do not provide anyone with your personal information or account numbers (or) information,” the statement read.
