Childhood mental disability on the rise

Childhood disability has increased 15.6 percent in between 2001 and 2011 and childhood mental disabilities have jumped 21 percent according to a study released Aug. 18.

Nearly six million children were considered disabled by 2011. Children living below the poverty line had the highest rates of disability while children in wealthier families experienced the largest increase of disability rate at 28.4 percent.
