Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel met with pilots on Eglin AFB before speaking to troops inside a hangar July 10. Hagel said he was confident in the F-35 aircraft, which is currently under investigation after one of the aircraft caught fire on the runway June 23.
“I believe this aircraft is the future for our fighter way of life for our services,” Hagel said. The aircraft is one of three top modernization priorities for the Department of Defense.
Hagel also discussed budget reductions and compensation issues including retirement and housing allowances.
