Authorities search for lost swimmer on Navarre Beach

Navarre Beach experienced red flag conditions May 28.

Emergency service personnel were called to Navarre Beach at approximately 3:20 p.m. According to Santa Rosa Sheriff’s  a male tourist in his early 20’s  was swimming with his family and one family member was rescued.  Resources were called in to aid in the search including Navarre Beach Fire, SRSO, FWC and U.S. Coast Guard resources including a boat, helicopter and a rescue swimmer. The beach was under red flag conditions which indicates strong currents were present. The search was called off for the night at 8 p.m.  Navarre Beach Fire to continue searching at first light tomorrow. According to an eye witness, a girl in her late teens or early 20’s was rescued and the missing swimmer is her brother. There were other swimmers in the water at the time of the rescue.
