A fun family day proved to be a truly educational experience for the Bartling family, who were the overall winners in Saturday’s Amazing Race for Survival on Navarre Beach.
The Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center’s first large-scale fundraising event was a success, and 13 teams came out to compete in a relay race to support sea turtles, and to have a little fun.
“We thought this would be something fun we could do as a family,” said Jill Bartling, after winning first place with her husband Brad and two children. She said that her son Connell, 7 and daughter, Riley, 5, loved “rescuing” sea turtles and learning about the danger of oil to marine life as they squeezed sponges filled with “oil,” a concoction of coffee grounds and chocolate syrup.
