A Humvee rolls along the Hurlburt Field flight line May 3 preparing for training exercises as part of the Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) Emerald Warrior.
Officials at Hurlburt Field’s 1 SOW are concerned about a mission delay for crisis response because of the heavy traffic on Hwy. 98.

Col. Wood from Hurlburt addressed the board of the Florida-Alabama Transportation Planning Organization saying, “We are part of the problem, and we want to be part of the solution (to traffic problems on Hwy 98).”

High flying advertising

The skies around Northwest Florida are almost always occupied. At any point in time, you can see commercial airliners taking off from Pensacola International Airport or Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport, fighter jets and C-130s soaring above the region’s various military installations, and the Blue Angels training along the coastline.

Retired Air Commando receives Distinguished Flying Cross

It was an unordinary day at Holley-Navarre Middle School when a teacher walked into the library wearing a military uniform, April 3, 2024. Surrounded by students, family and friends, he would be presented the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight two years ago — back when he was an evaluator flight engineer at Hurlburt Field, Florida.

Former Blue Angel pilot shares life lessons at Coastline Calvary men’s breakfast

Hall of Fame running back Gale Sayers once said, “give me 18 inches of daylight, that’s all I need.” While Sayers was talking about running lanes in football, the Blue Angels have also lived by that moniker.

Raider Games set for April 19, need donations

A Galaxy far, far away will be a little closer to home for Navarre High School’s Exceptional Student Education (ESE) students this April.

On Friday, April 19, Bennett C. Russell Stadium, where the Navarre Raiders play football, will become the site of ‘Raider Wars 2024.’ The Raider Wars, which is “Star Wars” themed, is the latest installment of the annual Navarre High Raider Games.

Wags for Woofstock

More than 200 dogs and even more humans gathered at Pik-itz on April 13 for a day full of peace, love, music, and pups at the Navarre Chamber’s Inaugural WOOFSTOCK 2024. The costume contest was competitive, with golden doodles dressed as hippies, bulldogs in wigs, Terriers in overalls, and golden retrievers with scrunchies on their paws.

The ultimate gift

“An answered prayer.” That’s how Austyn Evans describes knowing her two-year-old son, Conrad, now has a kidney after an agonizing search for a donor. Although the search took them from Northwest Florida to Texas and then to Georgia, the donor turned out to be closer to home (in fact, the donor lives in their home).
