Locals help restore Bike Lady memorial

The memorial to Elizabeth Dawn Allmon, a homeless woman better known around Navarre as the ‘bike lady,’ has sat alongside U.S. Highway 98 for well over a decade. At times the memorial, which is a white bike with flowers around it and a plaque telling who Allmon was, has fallen into disrepair.

Navarre’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) held a training session Sunday, March 3, at Holley Navarre Fire District Station 45. The training session was part of a six-session training course to prepare residents of Santa Rosa County for emergencies and how they can help their community.

Military fuel specialists gather in Navarre for reunion

Fuel specialists play an important role in the U.S. military. They manage, operate and maintain fuel storage and dispensing facilities. In the Air Force, this mostly pertains to vehicles and aircraft, both on the ground and in mid-flight. They also help maintain gas stations on the bases they are assigned, test fuel samples for quality and maintain liquid oxygen. In essence, without them, the military is at a standstill.

Milton man wins $3.9 million from Florida Lottery

Bernard Waters, 63, claimed the $5 million top prize from the $20 Monopoly Doubler Scratch Off game this month.
