The email from Michael Davidson asked whether he could take a slower route home from Puerto Rico. The El Faro sank Oct. 1 while sailing from Jacksonville to Puerto Rico, killing all 33 aboard. Investigators are seeking answers about who bears responsibility for the ship sailing into a hurricane.
TEEN CHARGED WITH RUNNING ILLEGAL MEDICAL OFFICE
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office says in a news release that 18-year-old Malachi Love-Robinson was arrested Tuesday and charged with practicing medicine without a license. At the West Palm Beach clinic he opened, officials say Love-Robinson performed a physical exam on an undercover agent and offered medical advice Tuesday.
PERISCOPE DUI DRIVER GETS WORK RELEASE, COMMUNITY SERVICE
Assistant State Attorney Lori Winstead says 24-year-old Whitney Beall pleaded no contest last week to driving under the influence. She received a six-month license suspension, 10 days of vehicle impoundment and 12 months’ probation — all common for a first-time DUI. Winstead says Beall also received 150 hours of community service and 10 days of weekend work release because she flaunted her endangering the community.
FLORIDA SENATE KILLS BILL TO INCREASE LEGISLATIVE SALARIES
Bill sponsor Sen. Arthenia Joyner said she wanted a pay raise for legislators in order to attract more working class people to the Florida Legislature. The bill proposed raising pay for rank-and-file legislators from just under $30,000 to $50,000 a year. The bill called for salaries to be adjusted every time state workers get a pay raise.
FORMER NFL PLAYER COSEY COLEMAN CHARGED WITH ASSAULT
Tampa police say officers arrested 37-year-old Coleman at his home Monday morning. Jail records show he was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and battery. He was later released on $15,000 bail.
