FIRST COMMERCIAL FLIGHT IN 50 YEARS TO CUBA DEPARTS FROM FORT LAUDERDALE
The first commercial flight between the United States and Cuba in more than a half century landed in the central city of Santa Clara after taking off from Fort Lauderdale Wednesday morning. The flight restored regular air service severed at the height of the Cold War.
TROPICAL STORM HERMINE FORMS, PREDICTED TO STRIKE UPPER GULF COAST
Forecasters said Tropical Storm Hermine formed Wednesday in the Gulf of Mexico and is expected to make landfall in Florida’s Big Bend area sometime Thursday. Forecasters say Hermine will then cross the peninsula and exit into the Atlantic Ocean near Jacksonville.

Prosecutors are investigating an election-night error in which Broward County voting results were posted on the supervisor of elections website before polls closed. A spokesman for State Attorney Mike Satz confirmed Wednesday that the office is looking into the matter.

Florida State football player Travis Rudolph won praise from his coach and notice around the country after photos surfaced of him eating lunch with an autistic middle-school student who usually eats alone. Rudolph was among several FSU players visiting a Tallahassee School when he saw Bo Paske sitting alone in the cafeteria, grabbed a slice of pizza and asked if he could join him.
MIAMI FUGITIVE SENTENCED FOR FRAUD AFTER 20 YEARS ON THE RUN
A Miami man who was a fugitive for two decades before his capture in Nicaragua has been sentenced to five years in prison for an old Medicare fraud conviction. Court records show 50-year-old Robert Allen Lopez was sentenced Tuesday by a Miami federal judge.
