MAN GETS LIFE IN PRISON FOR MURDER OF TRANSGENDER WOMAN

Terry Brady was sentenced Monday. He was convicted in September of second-degree murder. Prosecutors say Brady fatally shot 31-year-old Yaz’min Shancez in June 2014, burned her and dumped the remains behind a garbage bin.

FLORIDA PLASTIC RECYCLER AGREES TO PAY $424,573 IN BACK PAY

In a news release issued Monday, the agency says Ravago Americas LLC paid workers fixed salaries based upon a 40-hour workweek regardless of how many hours they actually worked. If employees performed work before or after their shifts or during their lunch breaks, the hours weren’t recorded or paid for.

FLORIDA’S VOTE TOTAL KEEPS SURGING BEFORE ELECTION DAY

Numbers released by the state Division of Elections Monday show that nearly 6.42 million voters have either voted early or voted by mail. There are nearly 12.9 million active registered voters. Early voting wrapped up over the weekend. Election supervisors can continue to accept mailed in ballots.

FLORIDA MAN, OHIO WOMAN CRASH, DIE ON BRIDGE TO GULF ISLAND

Florida Highway Patrol said that 70-year-old Robert Majka of Lynn Haven, Florida, was driving to the island Saturday when his SUV crossed the center line and struck an SUV driven by 53-year-old Deborah Roberts of Franklin, Ohio. Both were killed. Three passengers in Majka’s vehicle were taken to hospitals with serious injuries, as was a passenger in Robert’s vehicle.

A1A REOPENS IN FLAGLER COUNTY AFTER HURRICANE MATTHEW DAMAGE

Gov. Rick Scott joined local officials in Flagler County Monday for the road’s reopening. Motorists had been detoured to nearby residential streets since Oct. 7, when Hurricane Matthew skirted the state.
