FLORIDA COURT UPHOLDS CONVICTION IN LOUD MUSIC KILLING CASE
The 1st District Court of Appeal on Thursday rejected an argument from lawyers representing Michael Dunn that he was acting in self-defense when he killed Jordan Davis in November 2012. Dunn’s attorneys argued that the state failed to present evidence contradicting his self-defense claims.
OFFICIALS: MAN CAPTURED AFTER BEING SHOT BY FLORIDA DEPUTY
Rones Sagesse was arrested by Lee County deputies early Thursday morning. The sheriff’s office says deputies had responded to a domestic disturbance Wednesday evening in a Fort Myers neighborhood. Sgt. Matt McDaniel says a man engaged a deputy, and the deputy shot him in the leg. The man fled, but he was later captured after the sheriff’s office called in K-9s and helicopters to search the area.
DISNEY WORLD USING 300 DRONES IN NEW HOLIDAY LIGHT SHOW
A dress rehearsal was held Wednesday night, but Disney has not announced dates for the show. It is believed to be the first time drones will be used in a performance of this magnitude in the U.S. Disney is collaborating with Intel on the project. The show will take place at Disney Springs.
MAN GETS LIFE SENTENCE FOR FATAL GANG SHOOTING
Wesley Booker was convicted Wednesday of first-degree murder and sentenced immediately after that. A previous trial ended in a hung jury. Authorities say Booker shot and killed 21-year-old Maurice Knight in February 2015 at a Winter Haven bar.
TAMPA TODDLER HIT INSIDE HOME AFTER MORE THAN 15 SHOTS FIRED
Tampa Police say the girl’s father was outside his home Wednesday when he was approached by several men who were acting in a threatening way. Twenty-four year-old Eduardo Avila then went inside the home and that’s when the men began shooting. Authorities said more than 15 shots were fired. The 21-month-old girl was shot in her right thigh.
