OFFICIALS: FBI THWARTS PLOT AGAINST FLORIDA JEWISH CENTER
James Medina made his initial appearance in federal court Monday following his arrest last week in the alleged plot against the Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center, which includes a synagogue, school and meeting halls. Officers repeatedly told Charlin Charles to put down the gun, but he raised it and two officers fired at him, according to a police report. A single officer arrived first at the scene early Sunday in response to a report that Charles was walking up and down a busy street carrying a firearm. The officer then called for backup. The gun ended up being a “simulated” gun.
