FORMER FLORIDA POLICE OFFICER CHARGED WITH SHOOTING

Former Rockledge police officer Nicholas Galluzzi turned himself in Thursday and later bonded out of jail. He faces up to five years in prison. Police say two teens had been breaking into cars in December. They tried to flee when officers arrived and crashed their vehicle into a ditch. Authorities say Galluzzi confronted 17-year-old Alexzander Houston and shot the boy as he was lying on the ground.

SUPREME COURT SUSPENDS NORTH FLORIDA JUDGE FOR 6 MONTHS

The court said Thursday that Third Judicial Circuit Judge Andrew Decker will be suspended without pay for six months and undergo a public reprimand. Among the violations of ethical and professional conduct were falsely stating in a campaign debate that he had never been accused of having a conflict of interest.

FLORIDA SUPREME COURT UPHOLDS BAN ON OPENLY CARRYING GUNS

In a 4-2 decision Thursday, the court rejected a claim that the law is unconstitutional because it restricts the federally protected right to bear arms. Concealed weapons permit holder Dale Norman was arrested by Fort Pierce police in 2012 because his gun was visible as he walked down a sidewalk. He was convicted of a second-degree misdemeanor but appealed his conviction.

11 Injured In Second-Floor Balcony Collapse

An Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office news release says the wooden balcony failed Wednesday afternoon at Sandpiper Cove Condominiums in Destin. Authorities say two of the people suffered significant injuries, though none of them appeared to be life-threatening.

CENTRAL FLORIDA SHERIFF CONCERNED ABOUT HEROIN OVERDOSES

Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings on Thursday issued a reminder to those in the community of the pitfalls of heroin use. Narcotic agents found there have been 101 drug overdoses from Jan. 1 through Feb. 15 and of that number, 70 were heroin related. There were 28 heroin overdoses during the same time period a year ago, representing a 150 percent increase.
