DETECTIVES: FAKE TEEN DOCTOR STOLE $34,000 FROM PATIENT
A judge ordered a teenager accused of being a fake doctor to take a mental health exam. Judge Joseph Marx ordered Wednesday that 18-year-old Malachi Love-Robinson could be released provided he undergoes the examination by Friday.
EXECUTION DELAYED WHILE LAWMAKERS WORK TO FIX SYSTEM
The Florida Supreme Court on Wednesday stayed the March 17 execution of Mark Asay, a Jacksonville man sentenced to death in 1987 for murdering two men. Asay’s is the second scheduled execution to be halted since the January ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court.
BILL CREATES PERMANENT FINANCING FOR EVERGLADES RESTORATION
The state House passed the “Legacy Florida” Act Wednesday 117-1. A similar bill in the Senate is scheduled to be heard by its final committee Thursday and could then be eligible for a vote of the full Senate.
UCF GETS GREEN LIGHT FOR DOWNTOWN ORLANDO CAMPUS
The Florida Board of Governors on Wednesday approved UCF’s plans for a 68-acre parcel of land that used to be the location of the arena where the Orlando Magic played. UCF officials say the downtown campus eventually will serve 7,700 UCF and Valencia College students.
BILL REQUIRING QUICK TESTING OF RAPE KITS GOES TO GOV. SCOTT
The Florida House voted unanimously to pass the bill Wednesday, a week after the Senate also unanimously passed it. The bill is one of Attorney General Pam Bondi’s top priorities. The legislation was proposed after an audit released last fall showed that as many as 13,000 rape kits have gone untested in Florida.
