TEEN DIES 2 DAYS AFTER SAND COLLAPSE ON FLORIDA BEACH
The Bay County Sheriff’s Office reports on social media that 17-year-old Travor Brown died at Panama City hospital Friday. Brown was visiting the area with friends. On Wednesday, beachgoers told Bay County Sheriff’s deputies they’d seen a couple of teens digging in a sand bank at St. Andrews State Park. Later, they noticed a teen’s feet sticking out of the sand and started digging him out.
EX-FLORIDA COP PLEADS NOT GUILTY IN SHOOTING OF BLACK MAN
Nouman Raja has entered a written plea of not guilty to one charge each of attempted murder and manslaughter by culpable negligence. Raja was charged earlier this month in the Oct. 18 death of Corey Jones. Jones’ SUV had broken down on an Interstate 95 offramp before dawn. He had gotten out and called for a tow truck when Raja pulled up in an unmarked car, wearing civilian clothes.

Marine Capt. Jeff Kuss, a 32-year-old married father of two young children, died June 2 while practicing for an airshow in Smyrna, Tennessee. Fellow Blue Angel pilot Navy Lt. Matt Suyderhoud promised the crowd Thursday the squad will fly the skies over Pensacola where it is based “when the time is right.”
FLORIDA STATE BOARD OF TRUSTEES UPDATED ON TITLE IX PROGRESS
The university has increased its efforts in sexual assault awareness and prevention after a former student filed a Title IX lawsuit, saying the school failed to adequately investigate allegations that she was raped by former star quarterback Jameis Winston.
FLORIDA A&M PRESIDENT ELMIRA MANGUM COULD BE FORCED OUT BY NEXT YEAR
Trustees at the university on Friday refused to vote on whether to extend Mangum’s contract. That means that Mangum must leave her job by April 2017 under the terms of her current contract. Mangum was hired to lead FAMU out of a turbulent period following the death of Marching 100 band member Robert Champion.
