DAD ADMITS KILLING 6-YEAR-OLD SON WHILE PLAYING VIDEOGAMES
James Dearman pleaded guilty Thursday to aggravated manslaughter of a child in the death of his son Jimmy. He faces up to 20 years in prison at a July 28 hearing. A sheriff’s report says Dearman used his weight to pin the boy to the couch where he was playing video games with his girlfriend, 22-year-old Ashley Cole.
FLORIDA POLICE: ARMED MAN KILLED HIMSELF DURING STANDOFF
Tallahassee Deputy Police Chief Darrell Furuseth said a preliminary investigation showed that 36-year-old Patrick Keeney died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound shortly after police were called to the man’s home early Thursday. Police initially said Keeney, who’s white, died in an exchange of gunfire with two officers. Furuseth said two shots were fired in rapid succession, and police had recovered the bullet fired by Officer Douglas Kutchera.
CENTRAL FLORIDA VOTERS MAY FORCE DOG INJURIES TO BE REPORTED
Animal activists have collected enough signatures to place the issue before Seminole County voters. If it passes it would require the Sanford Orlando Kennel Club to publicly report injuries and report what happens to dogs after they stop racing, including whether the dogs have been euthanized or adopted.
FLORIDA GOV. RICK SCOTT’S WALLET HAS A LOT LESS MILLIONS IN IT
Scott filed his annual financial disclosure forms Thursday. Scott reported that his net worth was more than $119 million by the end of 2015, a drop of nearly 19 percent from the previous year. Scott was a multi-millionaire businessman prior to running for governor in 2010. He used tens of millions of his own fortune to pay for his first campaign and his re-election campaign four years later.
MOTORCYCLISTS HELP ENSURE MILITARY BURIAL FOR 2 FLORIDA MEN
Army veteran Edward Walker Jr. and Navy veteran Joseph Palella died recently in Gainesville. Jon Thomas of Forest Meadows Funeral Home says each would have had a pauper’s burial without the volunteers who arranged for military burials Tuesday at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
