PILOT LANDS SMALL PLANE ON INTERSTATE IN FLORIDA; NONE HURT

The Federal Aviation Administration said the pilot reported that the plane was out of fuel on approach to Vero Beach Regional Airport. The pilot landed in the median of the interstate about 1:30 a.m. Monday. Sgt. Mark Wysocky of the Florida Highway Patrol says traffic was light on the interstate at the time.

SENATE PRESIDENT JOE NEGRON STEPS DOWN FROM JOB AT FLORIDA LAW FIRM

Negron has been working at the Gunster law firm, a large corporate firm that lobbies the Florida Legislature. Negron’s latest financial disclosure shows that he earned nearly $226,000 from the firm in 2015. Negron in a statement said he had reached a “crossroads” in his political career where his conviction to push legislation had the “potential to result in a possible perception of a conflict” with his job.

MAN GETS 5+ YEARS FOR BURYING MOM TO KEEP RETIREMENT CHECKS

A U.S. Attorney’s Office news release says 57-year-old Brian Lee Adams was sentenced Monday. He pleaded guilty in October to theft of government property and aggravated identity theft. Prosecutors say Adams admitted that he failed to notify anyone that his mother had died of natural causes in July 2014.

MAN, DOG ATTACKED BY BLACK BEAR IN FLORIDA

Local media outlets report the attack occurred Saturday night. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reports that a Gulf Breeze man let his dog out into the front yard where it encountered a bear. The dog was injured, and when the man approached, the bear swatted him. The man was hospitalized for a short time, but neither his injuries nor the dog’s injuries were considered life-threatening.

MAN, TEENAGE STEP-SON KILLED IN NORTH FLORIDA HOME INVASION

Family members say Andy Fockler shielded his wife Janey Fockler as the gunshots were fired Sunday morning at their home in Weirsdale, which is southeast of Ocala. Also killed was 18-year-old Bailey Zylo. Marion County Sheriff’s detectives were interviewing witnesses late Sunday. Capt. Dennis Joiner says investigators are still gathering facts to determine exactly what happened. No arrests have been made.
