HARAMBE’S MATRIARCH GRANDMOTHER DIES AT ZOO MIAMI

The zoo announced on social media that the 49-year-old ape was euthanized Wednesday morning, saying she had been suffering from several health issues that slowly incapacitated her. Josephine was born in the wild in March 1967 and arrived at Zoo Miami in March 1983. Harambe who gained worldwide attention last year when zookeepers at the Cincinnati Zoo shot him to protect a child that fell in the enclosure.

BABY SITTER WHO WAS WATCHING BOY KILLED BY TRAIN CHARGED

A Pasco County Sheriff’s Office statement says 26-year-old Heather Henderson was arrested Wednesday and charged with aggravated child neglect with great bodily harm. Authorities say Henderson was walking along raised train tracks in Zephyrhills, northeast of Tampa, with Hunter Fink, the boy’s 4-year-old sister and another man Dec. 12 when a train approached.

MAN GETS YEAR IN PRISON FOR RUNNING ILLEGAL COSMETIC CLINIC

A U.S. attorney’s office news release says 44-year-old Juan David Acosta was sentenced Wednesday. He pleaded guilty in October to two counts of receiving the silicone with intent to defraud or mislead. Authorities say patients paid Acosta thousands of dollars for treatments at his Hallandale Beach apartment.

FLORIDA CITY SETTLES WITH 2 MEN INJURED IN ZOMBICON SHOOTING

Kyle Roberts and Tyree Hunter were both 20 years old when they were wounded in the October 2015 festival in Fort Myers. The city awarded $7,499 each to Roberts and Tyree on Monday. Their litigation with the festival’s organizers and security firm is continuing. One person was killed and six others were wounded in the shooting. No arrests were ever made.

FLORIDA MAN CHARGED WITH MAKING ONLINE THREAT AGAINST TRUMP

A Miami Beach police report released Wednesday identified the suspect as 51-year-old Dominic Puopolo. Jail records show Puopolo is being held without bail on state charges of threatening harm against a public servant. Court records do not list a lawyer for him. The report says he was arrested a short time later at a Miami Beach Subway restaurant and admitted to officers he had posted the threatening video.
