TRAYVON MARTIN’S PARENTS DESCRIBE HIS IMPACT IN NEW BOOK
“Rest in Power” by Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin was released Tuesday. The book’s narration alternates between Fulton and Martin describing their lives before Trayvon Martin was killed by George Zimmerman five years ago and the impact of his death. Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer, was acquitted of second-degree murder after fatally shooting 17-year-old Martin, who was unarmed and walking back from a convenience store.
SOUTH FLORIDA FARMER OFFERS REWARD FOR MISSING TORTOISES
Phililp Marraccini says the 65-pound tortoises were taken Friday night from the petting zoo at Phil’s Berry Farm in southern Miami-Dade County. He’s taken to social media, contacted Miami-Dade police and is asking for the public’s help. Marraccini says the tortoises are each 25 years old and go wholesale for between $800 and $1,000.
FLORIDA DEPUTIES SHOOT, WOUND MAN ARMED WITH KNIFE
An Orange County Sheriff’s Office statement says two deputies feared for their lives Tuesday when they fired shots at 51-year-old Abraham Canaan outside an Orlando-area Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market. The sheriff’s office says Canaan was holding a knife and had attempted to hit one of the deputies with his vehicle as he fled. Canaan was undergoing surgery and listed in stable condition.
JUDGE: DISBARRED LAWYER CHEATED CLIENTS, FORGED HUBBY’S NAME
Last week, 52-year-old Julie Kronhaus pleaded guilty in federal court to wire fraud and bank fraud. Circuit Judge Jessica Recksiedler ruled that a mortgage deed and note were invalid because Julie Kronhaus forged the signature of her estranged husband, cardiologist Kenneth Kronhaus. The note and deed gave two of Julie Kronhaus’ clients an interest in the couple’s $900,000 home in a gated community.
SHERIFF: VIDEO SHOWS ‘THIEVING IDIOT’ DEPUTY STEALING MONEY
John Braman stepped down Monday after body cam video of the Aug. 1 incident clearly showed the deputy going through what appears to be a wallet and tossing something out. The wallet is put in an evidence pouch and a $100 bill is visible nearby. Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood says they’ve had several complaints recently about Braman stealing money from the wallets of people he arrested.
