IT WORKERS SUE DISNEY, SAY THEIR JOBS WERE FARMED OUT TO INDIA

A group of information technology workers laid off by Walt Disney World says they’re the victims of national origin discrimination because they were fired and replaced by contractors from India. The lawsuit filed Monday contends that 250 IT workers in Florida were told they would need to train their replacements before they were fired at the end of 2014. Each replacement worker was of Indian origin, and was either brought from overseas or working outside the United States, according to the lawsuit.

MISTRAIL DECLARED IN FLORIDA MURDER FOR HIRE CASE

A hung jury has led to a mistrial in the case of a Florida woman accused of trying to hire a hit man to murder her newlywed husband. Judge Glenn Kelley declared the mistrial Wednesday in Dalia Dippolito’s trial after the four-woman, two-man panel said it could not reach a verdict. They had deliberated for nine hours over two days. It was not immediately known if prosecutors will try Dippolito a third time. She was convicted in 2011 but that verdict and 20-year sentence were thrown out on appeal.

RINGLING HIRES FIRST FEMALE RINGMASTER IN HISTORY

The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus has its first female ringmaster. Feld Entertainment Inc. is the parent company of the Florida-based circus. The company said in a statement Wednesday that Michelle Wilson will be the first-ever female ringmaster in its 146-year history.

POLICE: BOYFRIEND CUT IN FIGHT OVER BIRTHDAY HAIR, NAILS

Authorities arrested a Florida woman they say cut her boyfriend because he wouldn’t pay for her to have her hair and nails done for her birthday. Fort Myers police say 32-year-old Crystal Garlin was upset and grabbed a knife as they argued, and her boyfriend was cut when he tried to take it away.

PREGNANT WOMAN KILLED, BROTHER INJURED IN SHOOTING NEAR ORLANDO

Authorities say a pregnant woman died and her brother was critically injured while coming to her aid following a shooting at their home near Orlando. Orange County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Jane Watrel tells local news outlets that 24-year-old Sade Dixon was shot when she answered the door Tuesday night. Her 26-year-old brother Ronald Steward was shot when he came to the door. He was in critical condition.
