FORECASTERS: BUSY ATLANTIC HURRICANE SEASON IS MORE LIKELY
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s updated outlook predicts 12 to 17 named storms, including five to eight hurricanes, two to four of which could be “major.” On average, the U.S. gets 12 named Atlantic storms a season, including six hurricanes, three of them major.
WALT DISNEY WORLD PULLING PLUG ON FAMED ELECTRICAL PARADE IN OCTOBER
The parade has dazzled visitors with floats covered in colorful lights featuring Disney characters since it first debuted at the Florida resort in 1977. The Orlando Sentinel reports the parade went on an eight-year hiatus at Disney World beginning in 1991. It ran again from 1999 to 2001 before the current version began rolling down Main Street nightly in 2010.
POLICE: MIAMI AIRPORT SHOOTING WAS MURDER-SUICIDE
A Miami-Dade police news release says airport district officers responded to the parking lot Wednesday morning following calls of shots fired. The release says officers and paramedics found 59-year-old Mario Fernandez suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper extremities and 56-year-old Ivan de la Paz suffering from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the face.
BICYCLIST DROWNS WHILE TRYING TO RETRIEVE HAT FROM WATER
A Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officer who was driving across the Anna Maria Island Bridge around noon Wednesday saw 51-year-old Andy Lewis Milton Sr. go into the water. Witnesses said he was trying to get his hat.
CREWS SEARCH FOR MISSING SWIMMER IN FLORIDA PANHANDLE
Witnesses say the man entered the water in Panama City Beach Wednesday afternoon to aid a swimmer who was in distress. But the man never resurfaced. Double red flags warning beachgoers against swimming because of rough surf were flying on Tuesday and Wednesday.
