Johnathan Hewett has a map of Florida tattooed on his left forehead and temple. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said Hewett is seen on surveillance video prying open the door of a home last month. Officials say he took a gun and two watches.
MAN AT MENTAL HOSPITAL DIES AFTER BEING STUNNED BY TASER
Local news outlets report that the Manatee County deputies used the Taser because 39-year-old Christopher Erdman resisted when they tried to restrain him Wednesday at Centerstone Behavioral Hospital in Bradenton. Erdman was handcuffed and being prepared for transport when officials say he suffered a medical episode. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
PARENTS ATTEND TODDLER’S BURIAL BEFORE HEADING TO PRISON
Lonzie Barton was buried in a private ceremony Tuesday in Glen Saint Mary. Baker County Sheriff Joey Dobson confirmed the boy’s parents, Christopher and Lonna Barton, were allowed to attend before heading to prison. Both were recently sentenced on multiple drug counts.
MURPHY CALLS GRAYSON A LIAR, LAWBREAKER OVER HEDGE FUND
U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy says his Senate opponent and fellow Democratic congressman Alan Grayson is a liar, a lawbreaker and has disqualified himself from serving the public. His remarks came Wednesday, the day after the House Ethics Committee found that there is “substantial reason to believe” Grayson violated federal law and House rules in a number of business and legal activities and in managing his congressional office.
FLORIDA GOVERNOR SIGNS BILL ALLOWING COUPLES TO SHACK UP
Gov. Rick Scott on Wednesday signed a bill to repeal the state’s largely unenforced prohibition on cohabitation. It was one of 20 bills he signed into law. Under a law that has been on the books since 1868, a man and woman living together could be fined $500 and locked up in jail for 60 days. According to 2014 census data, there are nearly 438,000 unmarried male-female couples among 7.3 million Florida households.
