1 OF 3 VICTIMS FROM FSU SHOOTING IS PARALYZED
A family member says a Florida State University student shot outside the campus library is paralyzed from the waist down. Farhana Ahmed, the older sister of Farhan “Ronny” Ahmed, said Monday that her brother had been shot three times and that one of the bullets struck his spine. Ahmed was one of three people injured in the frantic moments last week when Myron May started shooting outside and just inside the entrance of Strozier Library. Officers fatally shot May during an exchange outside the library.
Quiet Atlantic hurricane season coming to end
This year’s relatively quiet Atlantic hurricane season is coming to an end. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reports that this season, which began June 1 and ends Sunday, matched forecasters’ predictions. The agency recorded a total of eight named storms, which had top winds of 39 mph or higher. Six of those became hurricanes, meaning top winds of 74 mph or higher.
BRADENTON POLICE FATALLY SHOOT FIREFIGHTER
Police say a Bradenton firefighter is dead after a standoff with officers following a domestic situation. Bradenton police Chief Michale Radzilowski says 50-year-old Donald “Donnie” Wendt came out of a house Sunday night, threatening to kill himself and his sister. He says Wendt had two pointed two guns at officers.
VANDALS SLASH POLICE CHIEF’S TIRES
The Daytona Beach police chief became a victim when someone slashed two tires on his unmarked car in broad daylight. Chief Mike Chitwood says the vehicle was parked outside his condominium on Saturday.
INMATE ESCAPES FROM MANATEE COUNTY JAIL
Authorities say an inmate is on the loose after escaping from the Manatee Correctional Complex. The Bradenton Herald reports 43-year-old Meren Thompson walked away from the inmate farm on Sunday afternoon. Investigators say he was likely involved in a carjacking about four miles away in Hillsborough County and may still be driving the blue 1997 Ford F150 pickup truck with Vermont license plates.
